Word on the street since last fall has been that business mogul Donald Trump is very serious with his plan to run for the next Presidential election. He recently took stage to various media outlets to discuss his feelings on the state of our country. When I watched him on various news outlets, he seemed to have a strong idea on problems in this country and what needs to be done. He is a smart and powerful businessman after all, so one would think to take him seriously. However, after last week’s interview on ‘The View’, I view this to be nothing more than a publicity stunt, especially since his ratings for ‘Celebrity Apprentice’ are up from last year. When Trump took to the view, one discussion that arose that seems to bother Trump is the birthplace of President Obama. There are so many other more important issues to discuss on the state of country such as our debt, where we stand in Libya, war, etc. and this is the issue that worries you the most? I can only imagine the only people to take him serious now are the crazies over at Fox News, who have been plotting to get Obama out of office before he was even sworn in.
Talking Points Memo released a compilation video of a Tea Party rally where partiers were asked their feelings about Trump and the whole ‘birther’ issue. Most seem to find him fabulous. To quote the article, one woman actually said that “Donald Duck would be better than this joker in the White House”. Trump seems to have a lot of fans right now, who are clenching to the idea of an Obama-less White House, but if the birth certificate fiasco is his only campaign strategy, they might have to look elsewhere.
So is Donald Trump serious about being this country’s next great leader? Perhaps we’ll find out 9pm on May 22. That would make for a ratings jump, and a great season finale of Celebrity Apprentice.
